MOON FORTUNO – SCION TO DRUMMNG GOD

When you are the scion of a popular rock figure everybody will assume that his offspring will easily follow suit with a cinch. “Ahhh…not exactly”,  explains Moon Fortuno, the only son of legendary drummer Edmund Fortuno.

“I grew up in Las Piñas,  near where the Bamboo Organ Church sits. I knew my parents were into music as I grow up”, says Moon.“I was mainly influenced by my erpat and ermat, i always hear and see them play and make music in our house. Since he didn't really teach me, he wanted me to learn by myself. My cousin, JB Fortuno of Genital Grinder was the one who is instrumental into my liking the metal genre” , says Moon. He have a sister who used to sing but decided to become a full time nurse and is in the US now.

It was my Moon’s decision to play the drums and be involved in the music industry. He was not prodded at all by  Edmund. In fact, Moon was not taught to play drums by the master himself. “Kung gusto mo matuto pumalo, aralin mo", was Edmund’s constant advise to Moon. And it worked. “I am currently a member of Supremo, Vassago, and Brutal Punishment. All of which are metal, I also do session work for fellow brother metal bands if needed. I'm also Sampaguita's on call drummer when needed. We do make and play original compositions”, musters Moon.

Moon’s band, Vassago recently released a full length album “Purification By Genocide”. Supremo recently release a music video “Kalag Sa Gapos” and is working on an album.

Moon’s playing style? “I really don't know exactly what my playing style is. But I try my very best to give and share what I can specially in songwriting. I think I’m more into Metal and Hard Rock”, confesses  Moon.

Moon believes his father, Edmond, is a far more better drum player than him. And for him he is the best drummer that ever lived. “They didn’t stop me from making music. .At first Ermats (Emmy Fortuno) was skeptical, since I was more into metal music, which does not really earn money for a living. But she is now very supportive”, chides Moon.

His love for music however does not restrict him to listen solely to the metal genre. “I also listen to a lot of classic Pinoy Rock bands. These bands  are the salt of the Pinoy sound” , admits Moon. 

Moon hopes to release more material for his bands. “So that my kids can listen to them in the future and hope that they will be proud in saying ‘ERPATS KO YAN’.  And from my accomplishments thus far, I know if erpats was alive. he would be happy”, finishes Moon.
