Bloodshedd; Death Thrash Metal Soiree
Of all the genre presently available now in the music world, the most misunderstood and critically discriminated genres are Death Metal and Thrash Metal. I think no one would argue with me with this. Of late, many bands like Legion Of The Damned, The Crown, Death Chain, Vader and a lot more have merged the two genres and aptly called it Death Thrash Metal.
Death Thrash Metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music. I am using extreme here in the strongest possible term. Building from the musical structure of thrash metal and early black metal, death metal merged during the mid-1980s. Band such as Venom, Celtic Frost, Slayer, and Kreator were important influences on the genre's creation. Locally, we have a handful of them now. To give someone a better perspective on how fast these songs are; on the average, songs have 60 to 100 BPM (beats per minute) speed. Death Thrash Metal possesses a minimum of 180 to 240 BPM!
Meet Richelle Rivadelo, bassist of the band Bloodshedd. “I grew up in Bacoor, Cavite and my whole family, I mean all of us, are musicians”, marvels Richelle.
She started playing bass in a band when she was just 9 years old. His family-drum roll pls- have played or still playing with bands such as Oremuz, Tubero, Queso, Payapa Project, Surevibe. His uncle Willy Gonzales is the Guitarist of Pryzm Band, who wrote "Sayang na Sayang" popularized by Aegis and Mary Ann Van Der Horst (song of "Kahit Kailan"). Her mother, sister, cousins and uncle plays music too. Her husband Alfred Verano is the Bassist of Dark Theory & Exoria.
The 4th generation Bloodshedd have only recently welcomed Richelle last April 2018 as their bassist. But without wasting any time, she proved herself worthy of the stature.
Bloodshedd’s current lineup are: Julius Book, vocalist; Ero Pelaez, guitarist; Christian Magallon, guitarist; Toots Book, drummer and Richelle Rivadelo, bassist. Each member of the band have at least one other band on the side. Her weapon of choice: a LTD B-15 5-string Bass Guitar.
“It's a pleasure for me to be part of the band. When I started with them, I felt that I'm not just a band member, but also a part of their family. We're helping each other to improve our skills and our sound as a band. Our genre is Death Thrash Metal. Our music draws from and is a testament of pure raw and anger - a most unfailing source of inspiration for the band. When Bloodshedd delivers their furious double-bass and angry-guitar hammering will simply leave you hunched over your bloody nose and more. Thrashing since 1996 and still active in the underground music scene”, explains Richelle.
But why Death Thrash Metal? “I find it as my stress-reliever. Great music with cold beer can make my day. Also, I dream to become a vocalist ever since, but I was shy and doesn't have enough self-confidence to share it with people and I was In love with the bass more”, Richelle explains.
She finds it so relaxing , that it makes her fall asleep when listening to Death Metal, Thrash Metal, Black Metal. Bands like: Defleshed, Demolition Hammer, Narcotic Wasteland, The Haunted, Darkane, Dark Angel, Sodom, Exodus, Slayer, Krisiun, Vader, Monstrosity, Hate Eternal, Angel Corpse, Deicide, Dark Funeral, Watain, and lots more. Wow, talk about rock a lullabye music.
Richelle, a doting mother and a Call Center Agent by day reminisces their gig with Pepe Smith last year at the Amoranto Stadium as one of their most memorable gigs. And just recently, they were the guest band of the event in Bicol and traveled 13 hours just to be there for 3 days of Death Thrash Metal music. “We met a number of awesome people there and lots of drinking for 3 days with the view of Mayon Volcano is so effin' great!”, exudes Richelle.
And when will she slow down? “Just like the Legendary Pepe Smith, we will not stop playing music 'til our last breath!”, finishes Richelle.
