Lola Amour

LOLA AMOUR – INDIE MUSIC AT ITS FINEST.

Wanderland, the biggest and the most established music festival in the Philippines was founded in 2013. The vision is to make Filipinos experience a one of a kind music festival and at the same time discover new bands via their annual battle for the local independent bands. The winner and runner-up are given the chance to play live at Wanderland Music and Arts Festival. Since 2017, Wanderland launched a similar annual battle for live visual artists.

Meet ‘Lola Amour’ , the 2016 Wanderland Battle Of The Band Champion.
“We were high school friends, and we each started out on different groups when competing for the battle of the bands”, declares Joxx  Perez-saxophonist.
Their music comes from a lot of different genres, but one can generally classify them under Indie OPM. The band name ‘Lola Amour’ was culled from the name of their vocalist's grandmother.
“Since we are a seven-piece band, we each have our own influences. Personally, my influences are from Funk, Rock and Fusion Music”, confesses Joxx.
Lola Amour is composed of Pio Dumayas on lead vocals, Raymond King on background vocals and bass, Zoe Gonzales on Guitarist, Angelo Mesinaon Trumpet, Joxx Perez on Saxophone, Renzo Santos on Drums aand Nathan Domagas on background vocals and keyboards.

They have been active in the local music scene since 2016, and are currently working on our first full length album. “We have played in gigs alongside bands like Sandwich and Rivermaya. It's a great experience seeing them play their music up close”, marvels Joxx. None of the members had formal education in music; passion was their gun; music was their bullet. Although Joxx can read notes and used to head the De La Salle Zobel Symphonic Band.
“My father, Joseph Perez, used to sing in a band in the 80’s, he plays the bass and is an accomplished guitar player. I would see him play with Wally Gonzalez and Pepe Smith. That influenced me a lot. I think a band’s name is a only a way to express one’s music. In High School, I was in a band called Sinigang na Baboy”, chuckles Joxx.

“We wouldn't go so far as to compare our legacy to the likes of that of Pepe Smith, but I do hope that our humble contribution to the local scene reinforces (and hopefully furthers) the pride Pinoys have in homegrown artists”, finishes Joxx.
