The knack of having a band during the 80's was not that easy, to start with. Number one, the rehearsal studios were expensive. Deux, musical instruments were expensive-the branded ones, at least. Tres, there aren't that many musically-inclined friends I have in that era. But alas, I still manage to got into two bands during my heyday.
MÆJØR MINØR
I was lucky enough to know Bong Alvar and Joseph Perez. This duo are musically-inclined in a way that they know a lot of songs in their mind. They were my classmates in Lyceum taking up Engineering studies in 1985 when we decided to form a band. We initially called ourselves BANDWIDTH. A term we come accross many times in ECE (Electeonics & Communications Engineering), our major. Then we decided to change it to MÆJØR MINØR. Which we thought were more apt and cool. The line lineup consists of Bong Alvar in Bass. Joseph Perez in Lead Guitar. Rodel Nanao in Rhythm Guitar. Kokoy in drums(Bong's cousin-RIP), Glenn in Keyboards. And me in Vocals. We were playing in fairs, symposiums and school concerts. We cover songs by The Dead Kennedys, The Clash, Sex Pistols, The Dawn, The Cure and other popular tunes during these times.
Bong now lives in Nevada. Joseph in Muntinlupa. Rodel is in Laguna. Kokoy died a few years back when he met an accident in US. Glenn is unaccounted for. And me, writing this piece for Anthology Book 3 for Ben Yanto's PCR.
PLASTIC PASSION
Also at the same, I happen to know friends who are also musically-inclined: Dondi Abaloyan and Bebet Delloro. We formed the band in 1985 in BF Homes Almanza. We cover U2 songs, The Rolling Stones, The Cure. I remember how good we were in covering U2's Bullet The Blue Sky. We perform mostly on birthday parties and and other sorties. The lineup consists of Dondi Abaloyan in Guitars/Keyboards. Bebet Delloro in Bass. Ricky in Drums. And me on Vocals and Rhythm Guitars. We had a good run with that band. Now Dondi lives in New Mexico. Ricky is also in the US. Bebet is in Australia.
